What are my responsibilities as an Employer?
You must be able to demonstrate that a suitably qualified and/or experienced person will be supervising the Trainee or Apprentice and that the on the job training that you will be providing will enable the Trainee or Apprentice to become a competent and qualified worker.
You must be prepared to allow the Trainee or Apprentice to attend training arranged by the Registered Training Organisation and that he or she is paid for the time taken for training.
Under the terms of the Training Contract you must:
- prepare and provide training that is relevant and appropriate to the occupation and will equip the Trainee or Apprentice with the necessary skills to work competently at your place of business;
- provide appropriate levels of supervision while the Trainee or Apprentice is at work
- ensure that your Trainee or Apprentice is enrolled with a Registered Training Organisation within 3 months of starting work;
- provide a safe workplace and demonstrate that you understand and carry out occupational health and safety practices;
- meet all legal requirements including payment of wages and conditions under the relevant employment arrangements; and
- adhere to the provisions of equal opportunity and anti-discrimination legislation.
