What are my Employers' responsibilities?
Your employer must be able to demonstrate that a suitably qualified and/or experienced person will be supervising you and that the on the job training that the employer will be providing will enable you to become a competent and qualified worker.
The employer must be prepared to allow you to attend training arranged by the Registered Training Organisation and that you are paid for the time taken for training.
Under the terms of the Training Contract the employer must:
- prepare and provide training that is relevant and appropriate to the occupation and will equip you with the necessary skills to work competently at the employer's place of business;
- provide appropriate levels of supervision while you are at work;
- ensure that you are enrolled with a Registered Training Organisation within 3 months of starting work;
- provide a safe workplace and demonstrate that they understand and carry out occupational health and safety practices;
- meet all legal requirements including payment of wages and conditions under the relevant employment arrangements; and
- adhere to the provisions of equal opportunity and anti-discrimination legislation.
